 Description:

Novosibirsk State Art Museum was opened on the 27th of December, 1958. Up to 1994 it was called Novosibirsk Regional Picture Gallery. The formation of the collection was realized with the help of Ministry of Culture of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, State Hermitage, and other museums. In 1970s - at the beginning of 1990s the collection was formed at the expense of the Museum's own bulk purchase. Beginning from the second half of 1990s the stocks began to grow at the expense of donations. The collection of the Museum has about 10000 units. There are departments of painting and graphic arts, decorative and applied art and sculpture, of contemporary art and exhibitions in the Museum. Excursion-advertisement department accomplishes work with spectators and mass-media. The restoration of art works is fulfilled here. The Museum collection has on the whole the works of art of our country beginning from the icon-painting of the 16th century and ending by the works of modern artists including the works by D. G. Levitskii, V. L. Borovikovskii, V. A. Tropinin, K. P. Brullow, I. Ye. Repin, V. I. Surikov, K. F. Yuon, I. I. Mashkov, P. P. Kontchalovskii, K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, A. V. Shevtchenko, R. R. Falk, P. D. Korin, V. Ye. Popkov, by many well-known Siberian and Novosibirsk artists (N. D. Gritsuk, A. G. Pozdeyev). We are particularly proud with the collection of the last works by N. K. Rerikh (60 units). They form a separate exposition in 3 rooms together with 5 works by his son S. N. Rerikh. A small collection of foreign art includes works by artists - representatives of the main European schools from the 16th till the 20th centuries. Beginning from 1999 Novosibirsk State Art Museum organizes international Biennials of graphic arts which had great effect on the foreign art and the art of our country.
